Why automation leads to new jobs

Research (Today's State of Work: At the Breaking Point' by ServiceNow) among 1850 business leaders shows that executives believe automation can lead to new job opportunities. Adding machines gives employees the ability to do the work they want to do in addition it would also benefit creativity.

Workloads have increased by 20 per cent, according to a third of those surveyed. Automation also reduces the amount of administrative work employees have to do, leaving more room for collaboration, communication and creative problem-solving.

The survey also identified obstacles regarding automation. These include; resistance to change, committing the required resources (staff and budget) and the amount of time it takes to implement automation.

According to Tom Cheesewright, Applied Futurist, there is no doubt that tomorrow's workplace will be occupied more by machines than people. While some machines will be a direct replacement for humans, most will be complementary. Indeed, it is becoming increasingly clear that humans have three skills that machines cannot yet match: the ability to curate, create and communicate.

‘’ Although machines help us analyse billions of digital transactions every day, they do not know how to tell a compelling story. Communicating based on emotion and passion is something they simply cannot replicate‘’ said Cheesewright.
